We naturally favor good news over bad news when they directly affect us. It’s one of the core functions of our brain to discern between those creating an emotional bias in favor of good news. While naturally helpful for basic survival skills, it becomes a serious problem in a complex enterprise. And because at multiple levels of a complex organization such filtering is taking place, the vital negative feedback never reaches the decision-makers. Cowardice, politics and flawed KPIs heavily contribute to the problem.
